Spain- Domestic Abuse Facts


2010
73 women died at the hands of their partners in Spain
31%  killed by partners who were non-EU nationals
25% of all reports of domestic abuse were made by or against immigrants.
11% of Spanish couples live together unmarried, this accounts for 58% of all reported incidents.
For every 1 protection order issued for a married couple, 10 are issued for cohabiting couples.
“for every homicide that is brought about in a marriage, 12 are produced in non-married couples".
Victim Information
1.     Report experience to the police by dialling 091 (National Police) or 112 (for urgent assistance during an attack
a.       Give your name, address and the time of the incident
b.     In Spanish the phrase is Violencia de genéro.
c.      Say: ‘Quiero informar un incidente doméstico de violencia. Querría hablar con alguien en inglés’ 
                                               i.    To make the report and receive assistance in English.
2.     Dial 016 in Spain for free confidential helpline to combat domestic violence problems.
3.     Spanish website for Ministry of Health , Social Politics and Gender Equality, the section on Gender Violence includes information in English (and many other languages) details on all the support: including financial aid, access to women’s refuges, social and economic resources and advice for foreigners living in Spain.
